UCLA VS USC FOOTBALL GAME THOUGHTS AND ANALYSIS

Although our focus here will be on UCLA Basketball, lets give the football team some pub by taking a look at the biggest college football game of the weekend. Irony alert: Florida fans (along with Michigan) are huge Bruins fans on
Saturday. So here we are - the Trojans just need to beat the Bruins to go to the National Championship game this Saturday - AGAIN. It’s become an annual tradition (not a fun annual tradition lately). Let’s first get a few things out of the way before we get to the juicy part:

1. Dorrell is a terrible coach - Too conservative. Too many cliches. Too boring. Too many losses. Not a good sign when you could beat a college head coach in Madden or in a fantasy league. If you dont believe me, someone please set this up. Thanks.
2. Our offense is painfully bad. See point #1 above. If I see any more swing passes on 3rd and 7, I am going to vomit on Saturday.
3. USC is playing very well at this point in the season and has much more talent on both sides of the ball.

So, you’re thinking I’m picking USC in a romp. Quote from a good friend of mine and Bruin football fan this week - ” You’re going to the game????!!! Be sure to drink lots and lots of alcohol.” Not a good sign for the home team.

HOWEVER, I am going to the game for a reason. This is really our best shot since the Carson Palmer era. Here’s why:

1. The Booty - Booty does not kick boute like moute. In fact, he is an average qb who happens to have great position players around him. He can and will make mistakes if he is pressured. Which, brings me to …

2. Put Booty on his bootie - Bruce Davis and Hickman should be able to apply pressure on the Booty. USC has not faced a quicker front 4 this year, but they may be able to run the ball and attack our undersized d-line. This is truly the key to the game.

3. The D - I will be the first to admit that our D has some holes. However, the D Walker led defense is our best in years. They will keep us in it. I promise. Keep in mind though, with our cookie cutter offense, our D needs to create some turnovers in order to have a chance to win.

4. The MO - Everyone knows USC is en fuego. But, keep in mind the Bruins have won 2 straight AND are the more rested team. Also, Everett and Breazell have each had great individual efforts in the past 2 games. I see the O getting more confident.

5. Rivalry Game - Anything can happen in a rivalry game. Cowan seems to be a bit crazy. Who wants to face a crazy qb in a rivalry game? Not I. He seems to be like a guy who could have a bad week, goes to Vegas, and decides to slap his life savings on a number at the roulette table. Which brings me to this….

6. THE BRUINS HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!! - Noone respects our team, our coach, and our program. Noone thinks we will win. We are already going to the Emerald Bowl (what?!). SUC is playing to go to the NC game. The aforementioned Cowan will most likely lose his job to Big Ben again next year. We are a basketball school, and they are the football powerhouse. Our coach likes nice guys, their coach pays players and gives them houses. We have nothing to lose….UCLA should open up the playbook, go for it on 4th and 9 like Petey, and blitz every single down. (oh wait, our coach is Dorrell). Back to reality and our prediction here at PoW:

UCLA’s defensive front 4 matches up well against USC’s offense. The secondary just needs to not give up the big play, and I believe the Bruins should get a couple turnovers just from pressure alone of our front 4. USC’s D, while talented, will allow a couple of big plays to our O. Shockingly enough, our offense is actually faster than Notre Dame’s, and this could be the one game where our quick hit, 3 step drop passing game could have some success. If we get one special teams or defensive TD, it could lead to……Our mvp - Justin Medlock for the game winning field goal.

UCLA - 23
USC - 20
